TERRA Engineering, Ltd. was retained by the City of Milwaukee to provide preliminary engineering services for the restoration of approximately 2,000 linear feet of Howard Channel, between West Loomis Road and West Howard Avenue. Howard Channel is a natural channel which has experienced erosion in numerous locations, that could eventually lead to damage on adjacent private property. The City plans to fortify the existing channel within the next few years, and needs budgetary estimates for budgeting into future capital improvement plans. The scope of work includes topographic survey, hydraulic modeling using HEC-RAS and HEC-HMS, preparation of recommendations for rehabilitation of eroded areas including studying the feasibility of incorporating natural “bio-engineered” solutions based on hydraulic flow conditions, and preparation of engineers’ estimates of probable construction costs.
