TERRA engineered the site demolition work, utility service disconnects, stormwater detention and drainage, and site hardscape and landscape improvements for the partial demolition of Lawndale Elementary School located on the west side of Chicago. TERRA worked in close coordination with the environmental consultant to ensure the proper excavation and disposal of contaminated materials associated with the removal of the building. In conjunction with removal of the building, TERRA designed a cost effective stormwater detention system that allowed the existing building foundations to remain as much as possible. TERRA engineered site improvements including a permeable paver plaza that was constructed in the footprint of the existing demolished building that provided stormwater detention in the stone base of the pavers. TERRA’s landscape services included the design of the multi-colored permeable paver plaza, raised landscape planters, ornamental fencing, and curb mounted bench seating.

Terra was the prime for this job and worked directly with Chicago Public Schools.
