As a part of a various/various contract through a prime consultant, TERRA was retained by the Illinois Tollway to provide plans, specifications and cost estimates for the replacement of the Mitchell Road Bridge over I-88 near Aurora.

Work included concepts for the new bridge which required additional span lengths due to the addition of a fourth lane in each direction on I-88.

TERRA worked through iterations of steel and concrete before settling on a concrete structure with MSE closed abutment walls. The two span bridge consists of two 12-foot lanes with eight-foot shoulders.

Both the substructure and superstructure will be replaced.

Additional work for the Mitchell Road Bridge included drainage design, utility relocation, barrier warrant analysis and maintenance of traffic.
