TERRA Engineering provided an evaluation report, construction documents, and construction management for the rehabilitation of the main potable water pumping station of Oak Park Illinois. The reconstruction included site development, architectural, mechanical, and electrical improvements. After an initial evaluation and hydraulic analysis, TERRA provided a design to replace the existing pumps with variable speed pumps, provide a new SCADA system and PLC as well as a new chlorine feed room with booster pump.

The fully computerized system improved the pumping station’s efficiency from 40% to 80% and resulted in a 50% reduction of operation costs. Through creative scheduling and planning, TERRA was able to sequence the construction to avoid interruption of pumping operations. TERRA’s design provided a $1 million dollar saving above the client’s initial goal and maintained the historic appearance of the 80-year-old pumping station.

TERRA was the prime for this job and worked directly with the Village of Oak Park.
