The Rush Presbyterian Core Center is a new critical care hospital located in the Rush Presbyterian / University of Illinois Medical Complex area. The site covers a city block adjacent to the Eisenhower Expressway. TERRA provided the civil engineering documents for development of the site, including more than 170 gated parking spaces, loading dock, and drop-off area.

TERRA produced construction documents for the parking lots, detention, grading, drainage, utilities, dimensional control and details. TERRA provided construction observation for the project.

During construction, a problem arose with the subgrade material under the parking lot. The material has become saturated, and would not compact. The owner was faced with a probable disposal of hundreds of cubic feet of material and replacement with stone. TERRA devised an underdrainage system to drain the subgrade. This allowed the area to dry and achieve compaction and paving of the lot.
