TERRA provided civil engineering services for the Mark T. Skinner Elementary School, a magnet school located in the West Loop neighborhood of Chicago. For this new construction, TERRA provided a unique stormwater re-use system, utilizing an existing steel cistern tank on-site. TERRA designed turbine pumps to route collected storm runoff from the site and roof to the steel tank. The runoff is then used as non-potable water supply for site irrigation. This sustainable feature was significant in the team’s efforts to achieve LEED Certification. Completed in 2009, the project was awarded LEED Silver Certification under the LEED for School program.
