In 2011, the Park District of Oak Park began renovations on one of its most popular public spaces, Taylor Park. Based on a 2008 master plan, the design for the first phase of the park aimed to update the park’s dilapidated recreational facilities, improve ADA accessibility, and address drainage issues that had plagued the park. Terra provided civil design and construction services for the reconstruction of the park’s six tennis courts, the construction of a new accessible pathway system, picnic shelter, comfort station, playground, and wetland area. The wetland feature addresses drainage issues by providing stormwater detention, allowing the park’s recreational areas to remain dry to park users. Completed in summer 2011, Taylor Park was received positively and remains a staple in Oak Park’s extensive public space network.
