PEORIA, Ill. – On Thursday, June 11, TERRA Engineering, Ltd.’s staff celebrated the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the City of Peoria’s opening of the $25 million Warehouse District and Washington Street projects. Since 2010, TERRA was a part of a team that performed Phase I and Phase II engineering services to assist in project development studies and design plans, specifications and estimates for roadway improvements. TERRA also served as the lead on all construction inspection services. The proposed improvements consisted and public involvement for the redesign and reconstruction of the streets, intersections, utilities and sidewalks within the Warehouse District and Washington Street in order to create a livable and walkable public infrastructure that is appropriate for the development of a mixed-use neighborhood.
George Ghareeb, TERRA’s vice president, said, “These combined projects have enhanced more than 30 city blocks and created a pedestrian-friendly environment.”
Detailed planning for the project began in November 2010 and was funded in-part with a federal TIGER II Transportation Grant. Early construction began on Washington Street in the summer of 2012, but the majority of this extensive project was completed during 2013 and 2014, with final construction and landscaping being completed in 2015. As part of this project, TERRA provided transportation, traffic and construction engineering, as well as, public involvement services.
