In 2011, the City of Milwaukee hired TERRA Engineering to investigate the excessive noise generated by two of their movable bridges. After observing the bridges and meeting with the city, TERRA identified the problem to be worn wearing plates. The worn plates allowed approximately ¾” of movement and TERRA proposed the plates be replaced. Upon their installation, the new plates immediately provided a significant reduction in noise as the rehabilitated center locks no longer allowed any movement in the bridge leafs.
